Dr. Jason Guardino, DO, MS, believes the most meaningful transformations in healthcare begin from compassion.
For more than two decades, he has pursued one question:
How do we harness technology and data to make healthcare more human without compromising quality, efficiency, or outcomes?
As a practicing gastroenterologist, nationally recognized speaker, and the first Chief Experience Officer of The Permanente Medical Group, the nation's largest physician led medical group, Dr. Guardino helped redefine how Kaiser Permanente approaches care experience. His work influenced strategy across 21 medical centers, supporting more than 80,000 physicians and staff while helping shape national conversations on patient experience, leadership, culture, and healthcare transformation.
In 2026, Dr. Guardino founded From Compassion, built on a simple belief: better healthcare starts from compassion. Through speaking and education, he brings together lessons from healthcare and other human centered industries to help leaders create better experiences, stronger cultures, and more human organizations.
Because he continues to care for patients as a practicing gastroenterologist, his work remains grounded in the realities of modern medicine and the everyday challenges facing physicians, nurses, caregivers, and healthcare leaders.
He believes exceptional experiences are not created by scripting interactions or chasing “satisfaction” scores. They are created by designing healthcare systems where people feel seen, heard, respected, and cared for. When organizations create those conditions, better outcomes, stronger cultures, greater trust, and improved organizational performance naturally follow.
Dr. Guardino speaks nationally on leadership, culture transformation, physician engagement, experience management, and human centered healthcare. He believes healthcare's greatest breakthroughs will come not from looking inward, but from learning across industries. By bringing together insights from medicine, technology, hospitality, retail, aviation, and other human centered industries, he helps organizations create experiences that are more compassionate, more connected, and more human.
He completed his Internal Medicine residency and fellowships in Gastroenterology and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at the Cleveland Clinic. He is the author of Primo Gastro, a widely used handbook for gastroenterology fellows and residents, and holds a master's degree in Health Education. He and his family live in Sacramento, California.
Dr. Guardino's work with From Compassion is independent and does not represent The Permanente Medical Group or Kaiser Permanente.
